Victo-power!

Hello peeps!

Thought I would give a little whirl with what we are doing right now. This is "Chez Turcotte" with a cute little Kena outside enjoying the autumn air...

Our trip to Natashquan proved to be too difficult for our power steering - and we needed to change it! Luckily Sylvain's friend Champy across the street is a backyard mechanic... he showed Sylvain a thing or two - and we got our power steering fixed!!!
Now the list is: new exhaust system, new transmission, new engine, new power steering... Sylvain likes to remind me that it was my great idea to buy Poops in the first place!!! However, in the same breath he says how he loves the "poops life"!!

A big accomplishment for Sylvain and I has been the completion of our land application for our business. This momentous photo is of us mailing the application to YTG - only 2 months until we know the results!!!! It took a lot of our time in the Yukon, and a bit of time here in Quebec as well - but the first stage is done!!!!

And what trip to Quebec would be complete without the requisite pictures of the legendary poutine? For your information, Victoriaville is the said birthplace of the poutine... I know every area says the poutine was born there - but I think this one is true. And if Lonelyplanet agrees with it... it has to be true! So on this particular day, I had been granted a treat - cheese curds! I put myself on a bit of cheese curd diet - only on the weekends! And this was Friday... So Sylvain and I just got our international drivers licences, and were celebrating with a little poutine. LITTLE my butt!!! (haha wish my butt were little-er!) This is a poutine at Chez Annie - the largest amount of potatoes I have ever seen in front of me at one time. For the record, this is a PETITE (small) that both of us shared, but did not finish!!!

So that was lunch. For dinner, we had plans to meet with Hans and Amelie at her parent's house for a beer or two. We arrived to find out that her mom had made a special meal - a galvaude! This was a first for me, and was actually too much for me to eat a poutine and a galvaude all in the same day. A galvaude is a poutine with chicken pieces in it topped with canned green peas. However, this one was MORE special than usual (you know, the homemade touch) - it came with bacon!! This is Hans with a lovely Boreale in hand and a heart attack on his plate...

After that we went and spent a few days at Sylvain's sister's house in the town Notre Dame de Ham. Our Lady of Ham. Pierre Luc (her boyfriend) took us on a cool trek to a great waterfall. Quite the surprise! We felt like we were walking around on the North Shore in Vancouver! Here is part of the waterfall. I didn't take the picture of the entire large waterfall because Kena was not doing so well. He is pretty sick these days, and that walk was way too much for him! It took him almost 3 days to recover from the walk...

Alain and Laure, I had my second raclette! Raclette is a Swiss meal involving a hot plate and a lot of yummy food! Basically you cook the food on the top of the raclette, and once it is done you place it in your individual tray and cover it with cheese. You then put your tray into the raclette machine-y thing and it melts your cheese. DELISH. You repeat this process until you cannot move anymore... The first picture is of the raclette machine in action, and the next two are of the necessary ingredients to make a raclette dinner a success!! It is a lot of fun, and has the atmosphere of a fondue or something like that!

And the final touch, of course, would be a little porto poured into a chocolate cup!

So that is a little insight to Victo life here these days. The leaves are falling and the birds are leaving Canada (and they seem to fly RIGHT over this house!). This week we are going to change the rear suspension in the van (seems we don't have any!), fix the mosquito netting on the poptop (seems we don't have any), make some secure locks for the van (seems we don't have any)... You know, the usual stuff! But we are having fun!

A bientot!!
